What is the difference between a swarm and an established hive?
A swarm is a temporary cluster searching for a new home and usually has no comb. An established colony has moved into a cavity and begun building comb, raising brood, and storing honey.
Do you remove honeycomb from walls or roofs?
Yes. When bees are inside a structure, removing accessible honeycomb, wax, honey, and hive material helps prevent odors, secondary pests, and future colonies from using the same cavity.
Can bees return after removal?
New bees may investigate an old nesting site if comb, scent, or an entry opening remains. Cleaning the cavity and completing approved repairs or bee-proofing helps reduce that risk.
What do honey and pollen do for the colony?
Honey provides carbohydrate energy. Pollen supplies protein, fats, vitamins, and minerals that nurse bees use to feed developing larvae.
